A hungry child cannot learn. When we asked teachers across our partner schools what single change would help their students most, the answer was unanimous: make sure nobody arrives at their desk with an empty stomach.
Nourish Schools is our flagship program. Every school day, our kitchens serve a hot, balanced lunch to every enrolled student — no means testing, no queues that single anyone out. The menu is designed by nutritionists to deliver a full third of a child's daily protein, vitamins and minerals in a single sitting.
What goes into a FayJoy lunch
Each meal combines a locally sourced staple such as rice, maize or millet with a protein — beans, eggs, or fish — and a portion of fresh vegetables. On Fridays, a piece of fruit closes the week. Portion sizes scale with age so that a five-year-old and a fifteen-year-old both leave the table properly fed.
The results show up well beyond the plate. Attendance at partner schools has risen by an average of 35%, and teachers report that afternoon lessons are calmer and more productive. For many of the children we serve, this is the most reliable meal of their day.
How you can help
It costs $15 to feed one child for a week. A monthly gift of $60 keeps a whole classroom in lunches for a month — and gives our teams the predictable funding they need to plan menus, hire cooks and buy in bulk.
