2.5 Million Meals: A milestone of hope

From a single small kitchen to a network of 85, we celebrate the incredible journey of feeding our future.

Twelve years ago, in a borrowed schoolroom with one borrowed pot, we served fifty lunches. This month, FayJoy Foundation served its two-and-a-half-millionth meal. There is no way to write that number that captures what it actually means.

It means 2.5 million times a child sat down to eat instead of sitting down to learn hungry. It means 2.5 million small moments of relief for parents who wondered, that morning, whether today would be the day the food ran out.

How we got here

The growth was never the goal. We added the second kitchen because the first one filled up. We added the twentieth because the communities around it asked us to come. Every expansion started the same way — a school, a village or a parent saying: the children here are hungry, can you help?

The turning point came in 2020. With schools shuttered and travel impossible, we had a choice: pause, or find another way. We chose another way, turning our kitchens into take-home distribution points and our volunteers into a delivery network. We reached a million meals that year, and we never looked back.

What the number doesn't show

A meal count is a useful measure and a terrible one. It does not show the girl who walked two miles to the nearest kitchen while hers was being repaired. It does not show the cook who arrives at four in the morning, every morning, to light the fire. It does not show the parent who can finally stop worrying.

We mark this milestone not as a finish line but as a reminder of the scale of the work still ahead. Two and a half million meals in, there are still children in the communities we serve who wait, and still schools that have asked us for a kitchen we cannot yet afford to build.

If you have given, volunteered, cooked, driven or shared a post — thank you. This milestone belongs to you. Here is to the next one.
